Materials
As a general principle, any iron and steel materials with a carbon content of more than 0.3% can be hardened. The more fine-grained the structure, the better the hardenability with the laser (pre-hardened steels).
Examples of frequently used materials which can be laser-hardened are 42CrMo4, Ck60, C45, 51CrMoV9, Vanadis 6, 1.2344, 1.2379, lamellar grey cast iron and spheroidal graphite cast-iron.
